Regarding electric rapid transport, Gadkari said that as a pilot project, a tender has been taken out for a 135 -seat electric bus in Nagpur. The bus will have executive class seats, ACs with ACs with Airline grade facilities. Its speed will be 120–125 km per hour.

Gadkari said that India’s transport sector is going through a major change. It includes initiative in the pipeline like Tree Bank, mobile-based driving testing and 11 major vehicle manufacturers like Flex-fuel engine. He informed that ropeways, cable cars and fungular railways are being constructed at 360 places including Kedarnath. Work on 60 of these projects has started.

The minister said, “11 companies including Tata, Toyota, Hundai and Mahindra have agreed to make flex-fuel engine vehicles. This will reduce fuel imports and also reduce dependence on fossil fuel. Flex-fuel vehicles are equipped with traditional engines that can run on more than one fuel. They are mainly for a mixture of ethanol and methanol or biofuels and to walk on traditional fuel such as petrol or diesel. Gadkari said that India is working on upgradation of 25,000 km of roads to convert two -lane roads into four -lane roads and we aim to build 100 km of roads per day.

60% increase in length of NH

He said that the length of national highways in 2013-14 was 91,287 km. Today it has increased by about 60 percent to 1,46,204 kilometers. He said that the length of the National High-Speed ​​Corridor (HSC) has increased from 93 kilometers in 2014 to 2,474 kilometers at present. He said that we are planning to plant 20-25 crore trees on the banks of highways, which aims to transplant old trees and plant five new trees on cutting each tree.
