Preparation to increase the speed limit of vehicles on Mumbai-Pune Expressway, know which vehicles will get this discount
Mumbai-Pune Expressway But discussions are going on to increase the speed limit of vehicles. According to information received from officials, the sloping part of the Pune-Mumbai route, also known as Khandala Ghat, is discussed to increase the speed limit of trucks and buses from the current 40 kmph from 40 kmph to 45-50 kilometers per hour. It is likely to be decided soon. This is being done so that the heavy vehicle landing on the Bhorghat section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway can get down slightly from the slope. Right now heavy vehicles take high speed on the slope. Later they have to run. There is a preparation to increase the speed limit to eliminate this problem.
Car or light vehicle will not get exemption
However, there is no plan to exempt a speed limit to a car or light vehicle. The current speed limit for cars in the 10 km long ghat section is 60 kilometers per hour, which is unlikely to be replaced. The speed limit for small vehicles on other parts of the country’s first access-controlled expressway is 100 kilometers per hour and 80 kilometers per hour for heavy vehicles.
A fine of Rs 2000
A vehicle is fined Rs 2,000 for violating the speed limit for the first time. This amount increases on the subsequent violations. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), Highway Police, State Transport Department and Transporters teams conducted a joint survey of the ghat section last month to assess the ground reality. Transporters and some officials described the current speed limit of 40 kmph for heavy vehicles at the dawn ghat as “unscientific”, “unrealistic” and “unfair”. Officials found that allowing vehicles to run at a slight speed would save time, fuel, maintenance cost and would help avoid “unnecessary” e-challan. According to transporters, there has been an increase in e-challan on the Ghat section after the introduction of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) on the 95 km long route, which includes several motion-lower cameras and other equipment.
