Preparations to form a new government in President’s rule Manipur

In Manipur, 10 MLAs on Wednesday claimed to meet Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and claim to form the government. These include 8 MLAs of BJP, NPP and Independents. They have claimed that they have the support of 44 MLAs.

After meeting the Governor, BJP MLA Thokchom Radheshyam said, ‘Except Congress, 44 MLAs are ready to form the government in Manipur. There is no one to oppose the formation of the new government. Manipur Assembly Speaker Satyavrat has met 44 MLAs.

On the other hand, Assembly Speaker Satyavrat has left for Delhi on the call of the central leadership. Soon the high command’s decision may come on forming the government. Manipur has 60 assembly seats. The majority figure to form the government is 31.

Biren Singh resigns on 9 February, after that President’s rule
President’s rule is applicable in Manipur from 13 February. On 9 February, the then CM N Biren Singh, who led the BJP government, resigned. There was a lot of pressure on Biren Singh for not stopping the violence in the state for more than one and a half years.

Violence has been taking place between Kuki-Metai in Manipur since May 3, 2023. More than 300 people have died in these two years. More than 1500 were injured. More than 70 thousand people are displaced. More than 6 thousand FIRs have been registered. Opposition parties were constantly asking NDA questions on the issue of violence.
