“Present documents or apologize”, Election Commission sent notice on Rahul Gandhi’s allegations
Election Commission strict on Rahul Gandhi’s allegations
The Election Commission has taken a tough stand on the allegations of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer has issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi, in which he has been asked to present the documents on which he accused him at a press conference in Delhi on 7 August.
Rahul Gandhi had claimed in his press conference that according to the Election Commission records, a woman from Karnataka, Shakun Rani, has voted twice. He also showed some documents in support of this claim, which he had described as the data of the Election Commission.
CEO Karnataka notice
The notice issued by the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka wrote, “You said in your presentation that this data belongs to the Election Commission and you also said that a woman named Shakun Rani has voted twice in the records given by the polling officer.”
The notice said, “In the investigation, Shakun Rani has said that she has cast a vote only once, not twice, as you are accusing. In the initial investigation, it has also been revealed that the document you showed the document, the document was not released by the polling officer.” The notice further states, “Therefore, you are requested to provide the documents on the documents on which you have claimed that Shakun Rani or someone else has voted twice, so that the matter can be investigated properly.”
Election Commission strict attitude
The Election Commission has repeated its tough stance in this matter again. The Commission has said that Rahul Gandhi should either give a declaration in this matter or apologize to the country for his allegations.
