A board was formed to investigate the Major facing allegations of compromise with national security. The Strategic Forces Command had authorized a board of officers to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the Major’s possible involvement. Along with this, a major investigation was being conducted against the accused for any suspicious transactions and espionage.

What has come to light in the investigation?

Investigation found that there was a copy of secret documents in the major’s electronic device. This is completely against army rules. The dismissed major was also in touch with a Pakistani intelligence operative through social media chats. According to sources, during this entire process the Major’s friendship with some senior army officers was also investigated. It is being told that some members of a WhatsApp group named ‘Patiala Peg’ were also under the scope of this investigation.

Brigadier and Lieutenant Colonel also under scrutiny

While another major has been dismissed after being found guilty, the Army has issued show cause notices to a brigadier and a lieutenant colonel for violating social media policies and being members of a WhatsApp group.
