It has been decided to extend the ongoing President’s rule for 6 months in Manipur, the state of Northeast India. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is going to present a proposal in this regard in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. Amit Shah will seek parliamentary approval to extend the period of President’s rule by six months in this Manipur. The proposal will be effective from August 13, 2025 after the proposal is passed. What was said in the notice?
In the notice issued by the Rajya Sabha, it has been said that Home Minister and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah have reported the following resolution which has been accepted:-
“It approves the announcement by the House President to implement the announcement issued on February 13, 2025 in relation to Manipur under Article 356 of the Constitution for an additional period of six months from August 13, 2025.”
How many deaths so far in Manipur?
The situation in Manipur has not been fully corrected so far. More than 260 people have died in ethnic violence between Meeti and Cookie groups, which started in the state in May 2023. At the same time, thousands of people have become homeless during this period. After the resignation of state Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the Central Government implemented President’s rule in Manipur on 13 February 2025. The term of the state assembly was up to 2027. However, it is currently suspended.
