Pune: BJP’s Pravin Darekar Defends Government Schemes, Criticises Opposition Ahead of Elections
Pune, 6th November 2024: With the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections approaching, political campaigns have begun in full force. In this context, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Pravin Darekar held a press conference in Pune today. During the conference, Darekar levelled accusations against the opposition while defending the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahini Yojana, stating that the opposition is trying hard to shut down the scheme.
Present at the press conference were spokespersons Sandeep Khardekar, Amol Kavitkar, Hemant Lele, and Puushkar Tuljapurkar.
Darekar said, “We have 2.5 years of development on our side. Through the Ladki Bahini Yojana, we are providing Rs 1,500 per month to women, and the government has promised to increase it. The leaders of the Mahavikas Aghadi are trying to stop this scheme. While the amount might not seem large, it helps women manage their expenses. In this election, women will be the game changers.”
Darekar accused the Mahavikas Aghadi of making fraudulent statements aimed at deceiving the public with false narratives. He stated that the people would punish the opposition at the polls for these lies. Darekar also criticised former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, claiming that promises such as loan waivers and blank 7/12 forms for farmers were never fulfilled. He further accused Thackeray of practicing Hindutva by wearing a “green shawl.”
Darekar also highlighted several schemes, including the Lakhpati Didi initiative, 50% discounts on government buses for women, and funds for farmers from both the central and state governments. He mentioned the decision to write off loans and provide free electricity. Comparing the tenures of two former chief ministers, Darekar stated that during Uddhav Thackeray’s time, no irrigation projects were approved, whereas, under Devendra Fadnavis’s leadership, 106 irrigation projects were approved.
In conclusion, Darekar discussed Pune’s development under the Mahayuti, citing the Pune Metro and the Ring Road as examples. He also targeted senior leader Sharad Pawar, accusing him of lying, and taunted Pawar over his grandnephew, Yugendra Pawar, contesting elections against Ajit Pawar.
