Pune: DigiLocker Not Accepted as ID Proof at Polling Booths – District Election Officer Dr Suhas Diwase
Reported by Tikam Shekhawat
Pune, 20th November 2024: Several internet users have expressed concerns over DigiLocker services being disallowed to check valid proof of identity at polling booths during the ongoing assembly elections.
Addressing the issue, Dr Suhas Diwase, Pune’s District Election Officer, clarified that mobile phones, which are required to access DigiLocker, are not permitted inside polling booths.
“Since mobile phones are prohibited at polling stations, documents stored in DigiLocker cannot be presented as proof of identity”,
Dr Diwase told Cross Talk India.
He added, “This policy is not new and has been consistent since the previous Lok Sabha elections. Voters are instead encouraged to carry physical copies of their voter ID cards or other government-approved identity proofs, such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, Passports and other recognized ID Proof.”
The decision has drawn mixed reactions online, with some voters advocating for more modern and tech-friendly alternatives in the future. However, the election authorities have emphasized the need to maintain the sanctity and security of the polling process.
