Kasba Peth, 5th November 2024: The ‘Punyadasham’ bus service, offering all-day travel for just ₹10 on the narrow streets of Pune’s central areas, has become a favorite among city residents.

According to Hemant Rasane, the BJP Mahayuti candidate from Kasba constituency, over one crore passengers have used the service in the past three years. Rasane made these remarks during a padayatra campaign on Saturday, which concluded in Narayan Peth.

The event, held to promote Rasane’s candidacy, saw the participation of several prominent figures including BJP city president Dheeraj Ghate, NCP city president Deepak Mankar, Swarada Bapat, Kunal Tilak, Rajesh Yenpure, Gayatri Khadke, Rajendra Kakade, Uday Lele, Sunil Rasal, Sunil Rasane, and Mahesh Suryavanshi.

Reflecting on the initiative, Rasane said, “As Chairman of the Standing Committee, I decided to purchase 50 Midi buses for the Punyadasham scheme. It quickly became a success, providing Pune citizens with a safe and efficient option to navigate the city’s narrow roads. The buses’ color scheme and clear route boards made them easily accessible for passengers. This affordable and time-saving initiative has been well received.”

He further emphasized the environmental benefits of the buses, stating, “The Punyadasham buses are CNG-powered, making them environmentally friendly. In the first phase, we provided travel facilities across central areas such as Peth, Swargate, Shivajinagar, Pune Station, and Pulgate circular routes. The goal is to encourage citizens to shift from private vehicles to public transport, reducing traffic congestion and pollution in the city.”

Looking ahead, Rasane revealed plans to expand the service, saying, “We are planning to introduce 300 more midi buses in the future to further enhance the public transport network.”
