Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday expressed optimism about the Russia-US relations and said that despite the two countries being at the lowest level in the years, now it is at a point where “lights are visible at the end of the tunnel”. He made this comment amid the possibilities of cooperation on joint projects in Arctic and Alaska.
What did Putin say on Trump
The Russian President said in a meeting on television, “As far as our relations with the United States are concerned, they are at a very lower level. I have said this many times before, but now that the President (Donald) has come to power, the light is visible at the end of the tunnel.” Putin made this statement during a meeting with nuclear industry workers in Sarov city. Sarov is the same historical place where the Soviet Union developed its first atom and hydrogen bomb.
Why is Russia-US relationship stressful
Relationships between Russia and America have deteriorated in recent years due to Ukraine War, east of NATO and restrictions imposed on Russia. But now according to Putin, Russia and America are discussing shared work in Arctic and Alaska. Putin said, “We are discussing the possibilities of working in this field together with our American partners, not only in our Arctic region, but also in Alaska.
Support expressed to Trump
Putin supported Trump’s claim after the Alaska Summit on August 15, stating that if Trump had been the President, the Ukraine War would not have started. Prior to the summit, Putin had told his advisors that Trump is serious about ending the Ukraine crisis and Moscow should work with his government.
Russia’s sovereignty and technical priorities
Putin insisted on maintaining the sovereignty of the country on the occasion of Russia’s 80th nuclear anniversary and said, “Some countries can live without sovereignty. Today the entire Western Europe is not actually sovereign, but it is not acceptable for Russia. If Russia lost its sovereignty, it would not be able to exist in its current form.” During this time he appreciated the Russian nuclear scientists, due to which Russia got a strong nuclear shield and the country made peaceful technological development.
Ai called AI the next challenge
Putin described Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the next major challenge of Russia and said that Russia would have to remain a pioneer in the region. “Nuclear industry is one of the most important areas for us … and now it is our priority to be a pioneer in advanced techniques like AI.”
