Mumbai made a place in the top 100
In terms of students, all four Indian metros, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai have improved their positions, which reflects the increasing interest in higher education in India. According to the ‘2026 QS Best Student Cities rankings’ released by London -based QS, Mumbai has re -entered the global top 100 cities and has climbed up to 98th position to 98th.
Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai also improved
Delhi has climbed seven places to 104th position, while Bangalore has climbed up 22 places to 108th position in Indian cities. Chennai has also moved forward significantly and has climbed up 12 places to 128th position.
Strong employment possibilities for graduates in these cities
Mumbai and Bengaluru have also performed well on the scale of affordable and are among the top 15 cities. Both Delhi and Mumbai have joined the top 50 globally in the employer activity category, reflecting strong employment possibilities for graduates. In this dimension, Bengaluru has made the fastest jump, which has jumped 41 places to 59th place. While Chennai has made an impressive jump of 29 places.

QS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jessica Turner said, “India’s growing presence in the 2026 QS Best Student Cities rankings is much higher than a statistical bounce. It reflects a structural change in the country’s higher education scenario. As we are getting closer to the fifth anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, global engagement, quality growth and focus on student-centered education are looking beneficial on the international stage.
London slipped to third place
London, who was at the top for six consecutive years, slipped to third place, mainly due to a significant decline in the ‘affordable’ index. Where it fell down 11 places to 137th position globally.
