Rahul does not know history-geography: Supreme Court
The Supreme Court on Friday reprimanded Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over objectionable remarks on Veer Savarkar. The court said that we cannot allow anyone to speak against freedom fighters. They gave us freedom and what are we treating him.
The Supreme Court warned Rahul Gandhi that if you give any such statement from the future, then we will take action by taking automatic cognizance. Do not give irresponsible statements about freedom fighters.
With this, the Supreme Court stayed the summons of the trial court against Rahul in the case of comment on Savarkar. The Allahabad High Court refused to stay summons on 4 April. After this, Rahul filed a petition in the Supreme Court.
A bench of Supreme Court Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Manmohan heard the petition of Rahul. As soon as the hearing of the case began, Justice Dutta objected to Rahul’s remarks, in which he called Savarkar the British servant.
Justice Dutta asked whether Mahatma Gandhi could be called the British servant, because he also used the word ‘your loyal servant’ in his letters written to Viceroy.
Dutta asked Rahul’s lawyer AM Singhvi, “Does your client know that when his grandmother Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister, he too sent a letter praising freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. When you do not know anything about the history or geography of India, you cannot treat our freedom fighters in this way. ‘
