Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter to PM Modi regarding the problems of students. In which Rahul mentioned the inconveniences in the hostel. Rahul said that he went to Ambedkar Hostel in Bihar last month, where the student mentioned these problems.

Apart from this, Rahul also raised the issue of scholarship to the students. Rahul wrote that scholarships received to students from Dalit, ST, Economic Backward Class (EBC), OBC and minority communities should not be delayed.

He said that the number of Dalit students receiving scholarships has been almost half. It was 1.36 lakhs in 2023, which has come down to 0.69 lakhs in 2024.

Now read Rahul’s letter

Dear Prime Minister,

I request you to solve two important issues that obstruct education opportunities for 90% of students. The status of residential hostels is pathetic for students of Dalits, ST, EBC, OBC and minority communities.

Firstly, recently I went to Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga, Bihar. Students complained, 6-7 students are forced to live in a room. The toilet is not clean there, drinking does not get clean water, there is a lack of mess facilities.

Secondly, post-matric scholarship for students is delayed. For example, in Bihar, the scholarship portal was lifeless for three years and no student received scholarship in 2021-22.

Students complain that the amount of scholarship is quite low. I have given only the example of Bihar here but the same situation is of the whole country. I urge the government to take two steps immediately to remove these failures.

I am sure you will agree that India cannot progress until the youth of the lower class move forward. I am waiting for your positive response.
