Lahore/Peshawar: Heavy pre-monsoon rains in many areas of Pakistan have caused havoc. In the last 3 days, at least 34 people have been killed in different incidents related to rain, including 16 children, while 46 others were injured. Officials gave this information on Saturday. In the last 48 hours in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, 19 people died and 6 others were injured. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 6 men, 5 women and 8 children in Swat, Abotabad, Charasadda, Malkand, Shangla, Lower Dir and Torghar districts became victims of this disaster. Swat district was the most affected, where 13 people died and 6 were injured.

17 people from a family of Sialkot, who had gone for a picnic, were swept away as the sudden increase in water level in the Swat river. According to local media, many people were swept away in the sharp stream despite rescue efforts. In addition, 56 houses have also been damaged in rain -related incidents in the province. The rain also caused havoc in Punjab province. According to PDMA, 15 people in the last 3 days, including 8 children, were killed and 40 others were injured. Most of the deaths in Lahore, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Jhelum, Gujarat, Faisalabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sahiwal, Chinyot, Multan, Sheikhupura and Nankana districts occurred due to wall and roof falling incidents.

Rain gave relief to people in Karachi

PDMA said that the first rainy season of pre-monsoon will continue till 1 July. During this time there is a possibility of rain with strong winds and thunderstorms. The authority has appealed to the people to avoid non-essential travel in bad weather. Also, do not stay in dilapidated houses, keep children away from drains, electrical wires and pillars and take care in flood -affected areas. PDMA has instructed the district administrations to provide immediate relief to the affected families and provide proper medical facilities to the injured. On the other hand, light to moderate rains occurred in Karachi and surrounding areas on Saturday morning, which gave relief to the people who have been suffering for a long time. (PTI)
