US President Donald Trump signed an order to impose 25 percent additional tariffs, ie 50 percent tariff, in total on goods imported from India. Talking to reporters, Trump has indicated that some more sanctions may be taken right now. The order on which Trump has signed on it states that India has bought oil directly or indirectly from Russia and is a “unusual and extraordinary” threat to the US. 25 percent fee on Indian goods will be implemented from August 7 and an additional 25 percent fee will be applicable after 21 days.

In Delhi on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said without naming America or Trump that “India will never compromise with the interests of its farmers, cattle ranchers and fishermen siblings and I know that I will have to pay a huge price for it personally but I am ready for it.”

The US has been demanding for the past several months that India should open its agriculture and dairy Barar for American goods, but India has refused. Due to this, the preparation of trade agreement between the two countries has been interrupted.

On the additional tariff imposed by Trump, the Ministry of External Affairs has issued a statement calling it inappropriate, unjust and incompatible. India has said that it will take necessary steps to protect their interests.

Here, Prime Minister Modi will go to China later this month. This will be Modi’s first China tour after the Battle of Galwan Valley in 2020. On August 31, a SCO summit is going to be held in the city of Tyanzin, China, in which Modi will participate. During this time Modi will interact with Russia President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Modi last visited China in October 2019. After the Galwan struggle in 2020, there was tension in relations between India and China. In October last year, India and China announced to reduce tension to resolve border disputes. After this, Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit in Kazan city of Russia.

After reducing tension on the border, both countries are gradually engaged in normalizing relations. China has given permission to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Both countries are also issuing tourist visas for each other’s citizens. But the big thing is that this China tour of Prime Minister Modi is taking place at a time when Trump is constantly targeting China and India for buying oil from trade, tariff and Russia. Therefore, Modi’s visit to China is considered a diplomatic answer to Trump’s attacks.

Dharali: Do not tamper with nature

There is silence of death on one side in Dharli in Uttarakhand. On the other hand, there is noise of the water of the Ganges flowing in the form of raudra. There is nothing left like in Dharli. All houses, hotels have all turned into debris. Those who survived the village have been shifted to safe places.

70 people reached a safe place by helicopter by the army. 80 people are still missing. Army, ITBP, BRO, NDRF and SDRF personnel are engaged in relief work.

Now these questions are beginning to arise whether the floods came due to cloudburst or due to the breakdown of a glacier lake. But more important than this is that so much loss in Dharali, is this disaster result of human fault.

I studied this Dharali. It was found out that this kind of flood has come in Dharali many times.

The biggest flood came in 1978. There was not much destruction at that time because then the river Kheer was neither more population on the banks of river Ganga, nor hotels were built. But the debris that came with the river in 1978, the rocks that came, stopped the way of the river. The river changed its way. Where there was water earlier, there were stones, there was paved soil. So gradually people became houses, hotels, markets on this land.

Then in 2018, there was a flood in Dharali. But there was not so much devastation at that time because water and debris came out of the side.

But this time when there was a flood at full speed, instead of going to the curve of the valley, went directly to the route, which was the original route of the river. Since where the river flowed, houses, shops, hotels were built, the one who came in the way of water got into the inundation.

The big thing is that if we walk together with nature, nature is a boon and if we come in the way of nature, then the same nature will be a curse for us. This is the message of the accident of Dharali. (Rajat Sharma)
