Rat was born with two males, the rules of nature, will the child be able to produce couples

Mice Born From Two Fathers Using DNA Editing Technique: Recently, there has been a news from the science world that has shocked everyone. Scientists from the Jiaotong University of China have given birth to a child from a genetic material of two male mice for the first time, without using any female eggs. This discovery is so revolutionary that it is being called “breakdown of rules of nature”. The study has been published on 23 June 2025 in the famous Scientific Journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). This experiment has raised many questions: “Will gay couples also be able to produce a child?” And “How could this happen possible?” Let us understand the story behind this extraordinary scientific success and its possible impacts.
How could it be possible

The sperm of two different male mice were used-one from a lab-breed mouse and the other from the breed of wild mouse in Thailand. To carry out this miracle, Chinese scientists adopted a complex process, called Androgenisis. In this, he used a female rat’s egg, but removed her ‘nucleus’. Subsequently, he put the sperm of two different male mice into that empty egg. In this way a fetus was prepared in which both DNA sources were men.
This process was not as direct as it seems. Scientists had to resort to gene editing in it. Careful changes were made to ensure that the balance of DNA did not deteriorate. This complex confluence of genetic engineering ensured that the fetus could develop healthy.
Once the embryo (embroidery) was ready, it was transplanted into the womb of a female rat. After waiting for a few weeks, a healthy male rat was born. The most important thing was that this male rat grew up and also produced children through a normal union with a female, which is another proof of the success of this technique.
Why this search is necessary,

This discovery is more than just a scientific curiosity. Helen O’Neill, Associate Professor at University College London, says, “This proves that mammalian organisms have a major obstacle in producing children from the same penis, ‘Genomic impressions’ and maybe it can now be crossed.” Genomic impricling is a process in which some genes received from parents are expressed in different ways. Bypassing it was a big challenge for science.
Will two men be able to become biological father now:

In today’s time, gay couples can produce a child only with the help of surrogacy or any other woman. In this situation both men are unable to become biological parents. But for the first time after this expectation, there is hope that two men can also produce a child who has the DNA of both. However, according to scientists, the use of this technology cannot be applied to humans right now. The reasons are – extremely low success rates, needs thousands of eggs, and a large number of surrogate women. According to Christoff Galche of Sainsbury Wellcom Center, ‘Applying this technology in humans is not only impractical, but will also be a very sensitive matter morally.’
