Patna: “Hit and Run Scheme” has emerged as an important support to provide relief to road accident victims in Patna district. The scheme was implemented in the year 2022 and since then, the families of hundreds of victims have got financial assistance from it. Patna District, is playing a leading role in the state in the implementation of the scheme. As per the data received from the District Transport Office (DTO), 4,102 road accidents from 2022, a total of 4,102 road accidents have been recorded in the district from 1 January 2022 to 4 June 2025. Of these, 2,223 cases of hit and run and 1,879 cases fall in the non-in and run category. Under the hit and run, cases are included in which the accident driver runs away from the spot and is not identified. In such cases, the victims or dependents of the deceased are compensated by the government. Till now 631 applications were received by 414 families, 631 applications in the last three years have been received under the Hit and Run Scheme in the last three years. Out of these, 414 families of the deceased have been paid a total of ₹ 8.28 crore and 15 seriously injured persons have been paid ₹ 7.50 lakh. Under this scheme, the families of the deceased are given up to ₹ 2 lakhs. A seriously injured person gets assistance of up to ₹ 50,000. If an accident happens, take advantage of the scheme in time. He said that it often happens in accidents that the vehicle that collides with the victim is not identified. In such a situation, this scheme is a sensitive and effective arrangement for the families of the victims. The DTO said that in the accidents after 1 April 2022, the victims of the victims can apply to the transport department and get compensation. The application process is comfortable and easy to help the needy without any obstruction. What to do, what to do? The Transport Department has clarified that if the vehicle or driver convicted in a road accident is not identified, then in such cases, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) can also be applied.
