‘Remain silent on ballistic missile attack’, when Russian spokesperson got a call in live press conference

On November 21, between 5 and 7 am, Russia attacked the Ukrainian city of Dnipro with ICBM missiles. The Russian spokesperson was addressing a press conference regarding this incident, when in the middle of the press conference she got a call from the Kremlin.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova declined to comment on the ICBM missile attack after receiving a call from the Kremlin. Perhaps he was prevented from speaking on this issue by the Kremlin. But his secret was revealed when he came to know that his mic was left on.

What happened in the press conference?

During the press conference the Russian spokesperson was instructed by the caller not to comment on the missile attack involving the “Yuzhmash” aerospace manufacturer in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. He said, “We are not commenting on the Yuzhmash ballistic missile attack, about which Western countries have started talking.”

News agency Reuters, a media outlet based in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, quoted a source as saying that Russia fired its RS-26 Rubezh missile at a distance of 5,800 kilometers inside Ukrainian territory. However, the missile was not equipped with any nuclear weapon. According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the RS-26 was first successfully tested in 2012 and is estimated to be 12 meters long with a weight of 36 tonnes. At present, there is no confirmed data regarding how many people have been injured in this attack.
