The Supreme Court on Thursday reprimanded the Karnataka High Court’s decision to grant bail to Kannada actor Darshan Thugudipa. The court said- The High Court has misused judicial power in the Renukaswami murder case.

Earlier on July 17, the Supreme Court raised questions on the bail received by the High Court. During this time it was said that it seems that the High Court did not use its conscience properly. At present, the Supreme Court has reserved the decision to cancel the actor’s bail.

In fact, actor Darshan was granted bail from the High Court on 13 December 2024 in the Renukaswami murder case, after which he was released from jail. The Karnataka government challenged the High Court’s decision against this in the Supreme Court in March.

Supreme Court said- Such mistake from trial court is acceptable, not from High Court judge
A bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan said on Thursday- they will not make the High Court mistake. He told the lawyer of the main accused Pavitra Gowda- we will not give any decision to convict or acquit.

The Supreme Court also expressed displeasure over the language of the High Court’s bail order of December 2024. Said- This is very sad. Does the High Court also give such orders in other cases. Especially to say that the basis of arrest in the murder case was not given. The bench further said- Such mistake can be acceptable from the trial court judge, but not from the High Court judge.

Kannada actor Darshan Thuggudpa is accused of killing fan Renukaswamy. Renukaswamy’s body was found on 9 June near an apartment in Kamakshipaliya area of Bengaluru. When the police investigated around the crime scene, they were seen darshan in the CCTV footage and the holy crime scene. From 11 am to 3 pm, both of their mobile numbers were active in the same area.

After this, Darshan and actress Pavitra were arrested on 11 June. The police have so far arrested 19 people including Darshan and Pavitra in this case. However, Darshan was released from jail following the Karnataka High Court’s decision.
