Monsoon session report card

The monsoon session of Parliament has been completed. The 5th of the country’s 18th Lok Sabha and the 268th session of Rajya Sabha started on 21 July and ended on 21 August. Its start was quite disputed. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on the first day of the session. After this, Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh took the action of Rajya Sabha throughout the session. In this session, a total of 32 days went to the House and 21 meetings were held. During this time 14 bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha and 12 bills were passed. At the same time, 15 bills were passed/returned from Rajya Sabha. These include the Income Tax Bill, which has been withdrawn by the government.

There was a special discussion on Operation Sindoor on 28,29 July in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on 29,30 July. The Lok Sabha was discussed for 18 hours and 41 minutes, in which 73 members participated and the Prime Minister answered it. A total of 16 hours 25 minutes were discussed in the Rajya Sabha, in which 65 members attended and the Home Minister responded. In this session, the resolution of increasing President’s rule was also accepted in Manipur for 6 months from August 13.

Review of income tax act

The Income Tax Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 13 March and was sent to the Select Committee for investigation. The committee’s report appeared in the Lok Sabha on 21 July. Accepting all the recommendations, the government decided to withdraw the Income Tax Bill, 2025. Along with this, the National Sports Administration Bill, 2025 was also passed. It aims to develop sports and make plans in the interest of players.

Ban on online gaming

Online Gaming Advertising and Regulation Bill, 2025 passed, aimed at promoting and regulating online gaming sector including e-sport, educational sports and social gaming. Along with this, offer, operation, convenience, advertisement, publicity and participation of online money games is to be banned through any computer resources, mobile devices or internet.

The bill provides for the removal of a minister in the Prime Minister or the Union Council of Ministers and the Chief Minister of the States and Union Territories or a minister in the Council of Ministers, who are facing serious criminal allegations. The provision to remove those who are punishable with imprisonment and arrested for more than 30 days are also in this bill.

Space program could not be discussed

Special discussion on the achievements of India’s first astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla at the International Space Station and the important role of the space program for India until 2047 was also launched in the Lok Sabha on August 18, but the discussion could not be completed due to continuous disruption in the House.

How many hours discussion in which house

During the entire session, both houses were seen to have frequent disruption. The productivity of the Lok Sabha was around 31% and the Rajya Sabha about 39%. Out of the total 120 hours available during this session, there was only 37 hours of discussion in the Lok Sabha and there was only 41 hours and 15 minutes of discussion in the Rajya Sabha.
