The Government of India has rejected the news related to stopping the defense deal with the US. This information has been given by news agency ANI, quoting the source of Defense Ministry. It stated that these reports are wrong and false. The procurement process from the US continues as before.

Earlier, news agency Reuters in their report quoted 3 Indian officials as saying that India had stopped the plan to purchase new weapons and aircraft from the US amid the tariff dispute. According to a report by Reuters, the Indian Defense Minister was going to go to the US for the defense deal in the coming weeks. Now this tour has been canceled.

50% tariff on India so far
Trump has announced to impose 50% tariffs on India so far. He imposed 25% tariff on 30 July, which came into effect from 7 August. At the same time, on August 6, by signing an executive order, it has increased 25% tariff on India, which will be applicable from August 27.

Trump’s order states that this action has been taken on India due to the purchase of Russian oil. Russia is using this money in war against Ukraine.

Officers told the Reuters that written orders have not been made yet to stop these deals. It may be that it is decided after resolving the tariff dispute.

According to officials, the Government of India will continue to talk with the US. A further deal can be taken only after clarity on tariffs and bilateral relations. Defense deals will also be able to move forward only.
