Returning again after 25 years, ‘because mother -in -law was also daughter -in -law’, Ekta Kapoor spoke openly about the new season
Ekta Kapoor is counted among the most powerful names in the Indian entertainment world. In the last thirty years, he has given such content in TV, OTT and films that not only have been a hit, but also touched the hearts of the people. Ekta has now become a name that has become the identity of new trends.
Ekta Kapoor, the mastermind of Balaji Telefilms and the strength of creative thinking, has given the Indian audience such countless memorable shows, which created a whole round. One of them was the show ‘Because Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ which started 25 years ago and which changed the definition of Indian television.
Now that the show is going to return with a new season, Ekta herself shared why she thought of bringing it back after so many years – so that the new generation could also join the same magic. Ekta Kapoor said on social media “Why Kyunki, Why Now?” That means “why” because ‘now? ” Responding to, he said, “When ‘because the mother -in -law was about to complete 25 years of’ Kabhi Bahu Thi ‘and the idea of launching it again came to light, my first reaction was, no!
Ekta said, why would I tease that nostalgia (old memories)? You can never compete with nostalgia. He is always at the top. Just like I remember my childhood and in reality it was the same, it can never be the same.
He further said, at the same time, the world of television has now changed a lot. Earlier, the industry dependent on only 9 cities has now spread among the audience divided on different platforms. Will it shake that legacy of ‘because’? The historical TRP that did not get any show before, nor later? But was this really the real legacy of that show? Was it just a high number show?
Ekta said, in the research conducted by an international organization, it was revealed that the show gave voice to the women of Indian homes. For the first time between 2000 and 2005, women started becoming part of the family conversation and this caused a major impact of Indian television, especially ‘because Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ and ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’.
He further said, ‘Because’ became a global ambassador, which brought the tradition of telling India’s story to the whole world. It was not just a daily soap but made issues like domestic exploitation, matrimonial exploitation, age taunts, and euthanasia to the dining table of Indian homes. This was the real legacy of that story.
Ekta Kapoor said, during a conversation with colleagues, the sudden end of the show remained in our mind. It seemed as if something had remained incomplete. So when the discussion on this with Kevin Waz, his team, network heads and Balaji’s team started, I thought we can keep ‘because’ away from today’s storytelling and can once again focus on issues that TV ever raised with courage?
He said, can we make it separate from the TRP race and make it based on effective stories? Can we once again bring back the power that can reach millions of people and change the view and attitude? Can we talk about parenting? How to create a balance between care and control? Can we talk on issues that we still hesitate?
Ekta said, can we use India’s most favorite and deepest connected platforms, televisions, to tell a story that will be connected to people and perhaps as much entertainment as entertainment? Can we bring back the time when the whole family used to sit on the dinner table and talk? When I asked myself this question, the answer was also automatically found with a smile.
He said, I said let’s do this! Make a show that is not afraid of raising the necessary questions, which starts the conversation, and who creates a distinct identity in today’s appearance. ‘Because’ returning with limited episodes, with the intention of celebrating 25 years, forcing people to think, giving entertainment, and most important – to inspire.
Ekta Kapoor said, “Because Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi”, the names of thinking that gives voice to the people, the names of the change, whose people have been waiting for a long time, the name of the history that the show created, and the name of the future, which the show is bringing for us. Everyone can see themselves in that story without any speech, just with the heart, so that everyone can join.
In the end, Ekta Kapoor said, “Because” the name of “is a celebration, the power to tell the story, not what happened before, which is going to be seen. We can never win with nostalgia (old memories), but this is not to win the battle, but to leave the impact. For the show which is not only ours, but also yours!
After the brilliant success of the hit content, now Ekta Kapoor is ready with another tremendous lineup. For the first time, she is making Vvan in association with TVF, in which Siddharth Malhotra and Tamanna Bhatia will be seen. Apart from this, she is once again bringing horror-comedy ghost bungalow with Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan. Also, Ekta is making her Malayalam debut, in which superstar Mohanlal will be in the lead role.
