Rishabh Pant is very happy to not see Anderson-Broad, listen what the vice-captain said before the first Test match
The Indian cricket team is going to start their England tour tomorrow i.e. on 20 June with the Headingley Test. Prior to this match, India’s newly appointed Test Deputy captain Rishabh Pant held a press conference and answered several questions. During this time, when he was asked questions about the absence of James Anderson and Stuart Broad in the England team, he said that he is feeling relieved by the absence of these two.
After both England veterans retired, Pant jokingly said that the pressure on India’s batsmen would be slightly less in this summer. For the first time in many years, there will be none of James Anderson or Stuart Broad in England’s playing XI. Broad got away from international cricket after 2023 Ashes and has come into commentary since then. Meanwhile, Anderson played his last Test during the first match of the 2024 West Indies series.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference before the Handingley Test on 18 June, Pant said, “Surely, it looks great when both (Anderson and Broad) are not there. Because after coming for the last two tours, they have been playing for England for so many years and I have come for only two rounds. But at the same time, we want to take sufficiently as the bowling line of England. Our team is also young. They are still trying to develop ourselves.
Pant, who is now one of the most senior players in India’s Test team, has taken additional responsibility after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from the longest format. After handing over the leadership of leadership to the younger generation, Pant is seeing himself as an important player both inside and outside the field. Despite the absence of Anderson and Broad, England’s bowling attack remains dangerous. Players like Chris Woakes, Bridan Cars, Josh Tung and Shoaib Bashir can become a problem for the Indian team.
