Seoul: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov will go on a three -day visit to North Korea on Friday. His journey is the latest signal of strong relations between the two countries after Russian attacks on Ukraine. North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency said Lavrov has been invited by the country’s Foreign Ministry. However, he did not give any other information. He did not even tell whether Lavarov would meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
North Korea has taken a big decision
Prior to Sergei Lavarov, Russia’s top security officer Sergei Shoigu visited North Korea in June. During this time, he met Kim in Pyongyang. Shoigu then said that North Korea has decided to send thousands of military construction workers and landmine removal personnel to help in reconstruction work in the war -torn curses of Russia.
What is South Korea’s intelligence agency assessment?
According to the assessment made by South Korean intelligence agency, North Korean workers can reach the Cursk region in July or August. Kim has sent thousands of soldiers and a large number of military equipment to Russia to help in war against Ukraine, including cannons and ballistic missiles. North Korea announced the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister to Pyongyang at a time when Lavrov is going to Malaysia for a 10 -member South East Asian Nations meeting.
Lavrov visited North Korea in June 2024
Some South Korean analysts say Lavrov may also discuss Kim’s visit to Russia during this period. Lavarov last visited North Korea in June 2024, when he reached Pyongyang to attend the Shikhar meeting with Kim with President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders had signed a strategic partnership agreement that committed mutual assistance to any country’s invasion. (AP)
