Moscow/New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India in December 2025. Kremlin confirmed this on Friday. The tour will be to further strengthen relations between India and Russia. This news has come at a time when America has imposed 50% tariff on India buying oil from Russia. Kremlin official Yuri Ushakov said that Putin will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a regional conference in China on Monday. During this time the two leaders will discuss the preparations for the December tour.

Ajit Doval had given information earlier

Last month, India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval also confirmed Putin’s visit to India. He had said, “We have a special and long relationship with Russia, and we give great importance to this relationship.” Doval’s statement came after a tour of Russia, where he spoke on bilateral cooperation in energy and defense sector. The tour took place at the time of tension between the US and India, as US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on India’s purchase of Russian oil.

Donald Trump’s tariff increased stress

US President Donald Trump imposed 50% tariff on India because India is buying oil from Russia. Trump had earlier also accused India that he is selling cheap oil from Russia and selling a large part of it for profit in the open market. He said, “India does not care how many people are being killed due to Russian war in Ukraine.”

Talk on phone between Modi-Putin

Earlier this month, Putin called PM Modi. During this, he told about his meeting with Trump on Ukraine War in Alaska. In a phone conversation, Modi reiterated India’s stance on the Ukraine issue, in which he emphasized diplomacy and dialogue for peace. The two leaders discussed several issues to further strengthen the special strategic partnership between India and Russia.

Russian Foreign Minister also confirmed

Earlier this year, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov also confirmed Putin’s visit to India in 2025. The tour will be the first visit to India after Putin’s Ukraine War began (February 2022). Lavarov said in April that preparations for the tour were going on, although the date was not fixed then. Let us know that Putin last came to India in December 2021, when Russia did not start an attack on Ukraine.

How are India-Russia relations?

India and Russia have been deeply deep ties. The tour will give a chance to further increase cooperation in areas such as trade, defense, and energy between the two countries. This tour of Putin will not only strengthen bilateral relations, but will also strengthen India’s diplomatic position on the global stage.
