M3 Group accused of murders
Human rights monitoring quoted local experts and eyewitnesses as saying that 141 people are expected to die or disappear after the attacks near Virunga National Park in North Kivu province. These include most people from Hutu community. The report stated that these murders have been carried out under the part of the military campaign run by the M23 group, which is the most prominent of the over 100 armed groups fighting for control in Eastern Congo. The group is against the ‘Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda’ (FDLR), which is primarily the Hutu armed group.
M23 gets the support of the government
After the 1994 Rwanda massacre, about 2 million people from Hutu community fled to Rwanda. Eight million Tutsi, liberal Hutu and others were killed in this massacre. “M33 Armed Group has the support of the Rwanda government,” said Clementine de Montgoy, a senior researcher of the human rights monitoring.
