SA vs Aus 1st ODI: South Africa’s 98 runs won by Keshav Maharaj’s deadly bowling, 1-0 lead in the series
SA vs Aus 1st Odi Highlights: In the first ODI played at Cairns’ Causlies Stadium, South Africa defeated Australia by 98 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Batting first, Africa scored 296 runs on the strength of the brilliant innings of Eden Markram, Bavuma and Breetzke, in response to which Australian team captain Mitchell Marsh collapsed at 198 despite the innings of 88 runs.
In the first ODI played on Tuesday, August 19, Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first after losing the toss, South Africa scored 296 runs for 8 wickets in the prescribed 50 overs. Opener Aiden Markram played a brilliant innings of 82 runs, while captain Temba Bavuma (65) and Matthew Breetzke (57) scored half -centuries. In the end, Vian Mulder scored a fast -paced 31* run to bring the team to a strong score.
For Australia, Travis Head took 4 wickets and broke important partnerships. Ben Dwarashuis took two wickets and Adam Jampa took one wicket, but the rest of the bowlers could not prove to be effective.
Chasing the target, Australia started a good start and scored 60 runs without wickets in the first 7 overs. But after this, the South African spinner overturned the match. First debutant Purnelin Subrayan started the Travis Head and then veteran Keshav Maharaj bowled deadly and demolished the entire middle-order batting with a 5-33 figure.
Australia was reduced from 61–1 to 89-6. Captain Mitchell Marsh struggled and scored 88 runs from 96 balls, but he did not get any support from the other end. Nandre Burger dismissed Marsh and then Lungi Angidi (2-28) ended Australia’s innings at 198 in 40.5 overs, covering Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa.
Overall, in the first ODI, South Africa performed brilliantly with both bat and ball to win a big win of 98 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
