Sanjay Mishra will play the role of Nana Fadnavis in Hindi adaptation of Ghashiram Kotwal
Famous actor Sanjay Mishra is going to be seen in a strong role of Nana Fadnavis in the new Hindi avatar of ‘Ghashiram Kotwal’. It is not only a treat for theater lovers, but also a slap on power, tricks and exploitation. Written by Vijay Tendulkar and converted by Vasant Dev, this classic political play has been directed by Abhijeet Panse and Bhalchandra Kubal, and produced it by Akanksha Omkar Maei and Anita Palande.
The fragrance of Marathi Loknatya and the tremendous mix of today’s truths, Ghashiram Kotwal is a story that is set in the Peshwa period of the 18th century, but its echo is heard till today’s politics. A man who puts his daughter at stake for strength – and finally the same system chews him.
Sanjay Mishra said about his character, Nana is not just a character locked in history books, he is a thinking. This drama is a mirror of our situation today. Playing this role for me is not an acting, but face to face with political truths.
Santosh Juvekar, who is playing the role of Ghashiram, says, “To be Ghashiram means to walk on a rope – sometimes suffering, sometimes a conspirator, and sometimes a tragic hero. It also has pain, power and poetry. I am eagerly waiting to put it on stage.”
Urmila Kanetkar, who is playing the role of Pink, says, Pink is not just a Lavani dancer, she is the soul of this story. Through music and dance, she describes the pain that women often live inside. This is the most emotionally demanding role for me.
In Phulwa Khamkar’s choreography, this 2025 presentation connects with today’s reality while maintaining old juices and music. Issues like moral decline, misuse of power and female marketization still seem to be equally fresh. Ghashiram Kotwal will premiere in Hindi on 14 August.
