Lava mobile satellite connectivity
Lava and HMD are preparing to launch a feature phone with satellite connectivity in India. Both these companies have recently partnered with service providers for this. Under this partnership, users will get direct-to-mobile (D2M) connectivity in the feature phone. Users will be able to call with feature phones even without mobile network in emergency situation. Currently, satellite connectivity features are available in iPhone and many premium Android smartphones.
Calling will be done without network
HMD has partnered with many more companies including Free Stream Technology for the Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) phone on 28 April i.e. Monday. The company has made this big announcement before the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (Waves) 2025 to be held from May 1 next month. Apart from this, Indian company Lava International has also partnered with Tejas Network for direct-to-mobile connectivity. Lava has also shared information about many specifications of this feature phone. Field trials will be done for direct-to-mobile service soon.
HMD has also partnered with Tejas Network and Cinclair besides free stream technology for direct-to-mobile satellite connectivity. Waves 2025 will be organized at the Jio World Center next month, in which these companies will mourn this direct-to-mobile technology.
Lava’s feature phone
Lava said that the company’s research and development team has created a feature phone in collaboration with Tejas Network, which will work on MediaTek’s MT6261 processor. This phone is integrated with SL3000 chip. It will get UHF Antina, which will catch GSM voice calls and TV signals. This feature phone of Lava will come with a 2.8 -inch QVGA display and will get a 2,200mAh battery.
What is direct-to-mobile technology?
The D2M is called Next-Jeanation Broadcasting Technology, which contains live TV, audio, video and text messages over-the-top i.e. OTT delivery. For this, the phone needs neither Wi-Fi nor any internet connectivity. The phones are directly connected to the satellite. Lava has talked about launching this direct-to-mobile technology feature phone with Make in India Initiative. Not only this, this phone will be completely design in India.
HMD also said that this low-cost feature phone would come with direct-to-mobile connectivity support. Apart from Tejas network, Prasar Bharati and IIT Kanpur have been partnered for this. This HMD phone will also come with dedicated Sankhya SL-3000 chipset.
