SC approval to 500 crore Banke Bihari Corridor
The way to build a corridor has been cleared from the treasury of Banke Bihari temple. On Thursday, the Supreme Court approved the formation of the corridor. Now a grand corridor will be built on 5 acres.
The court has allowed the UP government to acquire 5 acres of land near the temple for the corridor of Rs 500 crore of the temple. At the same time, the condition imposed that the acquired land would be registered in the name of God. The Supreme Court also amended the Allahabad High Court order. The High Court had prohibited the purchase of land around the temple from using government money.
Ishwar Chandra Sharma filed a petition in the Supreme Court following the High Court’s order regarding the Banke Bihari Corridor. Two issues were placed in it. First- With the receiver, the second- with the construction of the corridor. The Supreme Court issued an order on both these issues on Thursday.
Land for the corridor will be purchased from the temple treasury
To build the Banke Bihari corridor, the state government wanted to buy land for the corridor with the amount of the treasury of the temple. However, it was opposed by the Goswamis of the temple and the matter reached the High Court.
The High Court had banned the use of the amount of the temple treasury. After this, the petitioner Ishwar Chandra Sharma reached the Supreme Court and filed a petition regarding the corridor.
The Supreme Court said in an order on Thursday that money can be taken from the temple treasury to buy the corridor land. The government will have to take land in the name of the temple. Advocate Sarthak Chaturvedi of the Supreme Court said that the government can take money from the treasury of Banke Bihari temple only to buy land.
