Security of bank employees should be fixed, Finance Ministry wrote a letter to the states

financial Service Secretary M. Nagaraju has written a letter to the Chief Secretaries of all states and union territories asking them to ensure the safety of bank employees. He has insisted on maintaining uninterrupted banking services for the public in the letter. In recent media reports and social media coverage, incidents such as oral misconduct with bank employees, physical attacks and obstructing banking work were reported within bank complexes.

Action should be done with legal measures

Nagaraju said in his letter that all these acts are illegal, which affect the morale of bank employees and reduce public confidence in safe banking services. He emphasized that such incidents should be dealt with strong and readiness with legal measures to ensure uninterrupted public reach to the safety and banking of bank employees.

Police should be deployed

The Secretary requested the states to issue suitable advice to sensitive and direct the District Magistrates and State Police. Its objective is to prevent such incidents in bank branches, including deployment of local police or patrols during busy working hours of banks at sensitive places.

Bank employees get safe environment

He further stated that nominated law enforcement agencies should ensure quick and effective response to such complaints and take strict and preventive action against criminals under the related provisions. Nagaraju believes that these measures will increase public confidence, provide a safe environment for bank employees and facilitates effective delivery of banking services. Bank labor organizations have urged the management to increase security in branches due to increasing incidents of attacks on bankers. In some cases, incidents of harassing women employees and officers by customers have also come to light.
