Shah’s comment on Reddy, 18 judges described unfortunate

Retired judges have criticized Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on the opposition’s Vice Presidential candidate B Sudarshan Reddy. Shah has accused Reddy of supporting Naxalism, which has been described by the former judges as unfortunate. Said that it would be intelligent to respect the post of Vice President.

The group of retired judges of the Supreme Court and the High Court consists of 18 judges including former judge Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice J Chelameswar. He said that Salwa Judum verdict does not clearly or indirectly supports Naxalism or its ideology. They said,

In fact, Amit Shah said in Kerala on 22 August, ‘Former Supreme Court judge Sudarshan Reddy is the same person who helped Naxalism. He ruled on Salwa Judum. If the decision on Salwa Judum did not come, the Naxalite extremism would have ended by 2020.

Judge said- Damage to the independence of the judiciary due to the misconception of the decision

The group of retired judges issued a statement saying that the prejudice of the Supreme Court on behalf of a high political officer is expected to negatively affect the judges. This can harm the independence of the judiciary.

Those who signed the statement include former Supreme Court judge AK Patnaik, Justice Abhay Oka, Justice Gopal Gowda, Justice Vikramjit Sen, Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice Madan B. Lokur, Justice J Chelameswar, Senior Advocate Sanjay Hegde and Prof. Mohan Gopal is included.

On Shah’s comment, Reddy said on 23 August that he does not want to debate issues with the Home Minister. This decision is not of him, but of the Supreme Court. He only wrote the decision. If Amit Shah had read the entire decision, he would not have made this comment.
