Shardul Thakur on Rishabh Pant: The spirit showed by Rishabh Pant during the Manchester Test not only won the hearts of the audience, but also impressed Team India all -rounder Shardul Thakur. Pant scored a half -century in the first innings in the fourth Test against England despite a leg injury and played an important role in removing the team from the difficult situation.

On the first day, Rishabh Pant’s right toe suffered a serious injury to an attempt to reverse a reverse sweep off the ball of Chris Woakes. While groaning with pain, he went out of the field as a ‘retired heart’. The fracture in the scan was confirmed. Still he came to bat for the team.

Pant scored half -century despite injury

On the second day, when Rishabh Pant landed on the field to bat lame, the entire stadium stood up and welcomed him. He played a valuable innings of 54 runs in 75 balls, including a six off Jofra Archer’s ball. Although Archer later dismissed him, Pant had reached his team to a respectable score.

Shardul Thakur himself played a useful innings of 41 runs. Rishabh Pant landed in the field only after he was dismissed. Shardul Thakur openly praised Pant’s efforts to bat despite the pain.

Shardul Thakur said at the press conference after the second day’s play was over, “I think it was our plan (trying to bring Pant on the field). The medical team tried hard. So yes, salute them.” Referring to Rishabh Pant’s half -century, he said, “Whatever he did, definitely scored important runs for the team.” Shardul became emotional and said, “He was in great pain. And we have seen him doing many great things. And it was another great job for the team today.”

Shardul Thakur compared Pant to Graeme Smith

Shardul Thakur compared Rishabh Pant to former South African captain Graeme Smith, who came out to bat against Australia despite a wrist injury. Thakur said, “Such opportunities are the real test of the spirit of the players. Pant’s ability to bear the pain is unique. If he is having pain, then understand that there will be a big injury.”
