Shashi Tharoor said, ‘As long as there is doubt about the fairness of elections in people’s minds. Till then the credibility of the Election Commission is being damaged. If these doubts go away, the credibility of the Election Commission may return. The Election Commission has its own interest in solving these questions.
Many leaders including Rahul Gandhi were taken into custody
Opposition leaders took out a foot march from Parliament to the Election Commission office against the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar and the allegations of voter fraud during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This Protest March was stopped outside Parliament. Several MPs including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut were detained.
Rahul Gandhi demands transparency
The opposition alleges that the voter list is being manipulated through SIR, causing damage to democracy and franchise. Rahul Gandhi described it as a ‘fight to save the constitution’ and demanded transparency of the digital voter list.
