Tokyo: Japan Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has suffered a major setback in the election. Ishiba’s ruling coalition has lost in the parliamentary election. After the defeat in the election, PM Shigeru Ishiba has said that he will continue in office despite losing the election of the ruling coalition of his led coalition. He said that he will continue to be on the post of PM so that the country can deal with challenges like rising prices and high American charges.

What did PM Shigeru Ishiba say?

PM Shigeru Ishiba said that he takes the results seriously, but his priority is to prevent political emptiness and deal with the upcoming challenges, including the August 1 deadline of the fee agreement with the US. The Prime Minister hoped that he would meet US President Donald Trump and reach a mutually beneficial agreement.

How was Ishiba’s performance in the election?

Let me tell you that Ishiba’s ruling alliance could not get a majority in the upper house of 248 seats in the important parliamentary election on Monday. Japan’s Parliament voted on Sunday for 124 out of 248 seats of ‘House of Counselors’, Japan’s Parliament. Ishiba’s ‘Liberal Democratic Party’ (LDP) and its coalition partner Comeito had to win 50 seats in addition to the already existing 75 seats to maintain a majority but the alliance could win only 47 seats. This figure is three seats with majority and 19 seats from its earlier seat.

Increased political instability in Japan

Meanwhile, let us also tell here that this defeat is another setback for Ishiba -led alliance. The alliance has come into a minority in both houses after the defeat of the lower House in October and this has further increased the political instability of Japan. This is the first time since the party’s establishment in 1955 when LDP has lost a majority in both houses of Parliament.
