Shivraj, Bhupendra, VD Sharma will now appear in the trial court.
Palpal correspondent, Jabalpur. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, MP and State BJP President VD Sharma and former Minister Bhupendra Singh have not been able to get relief from the Supreme Court in the defamation case of Rajya Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Vivek Tankha. All three leaders including Shivraj will have to appear in the trial court in the case.
The three leaders had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding dismissal of the defamation case filed against them. After hearing the arguments, the Supreme Court issued notice to all the parties including Vivek Tankha and sought their reply within 4 weeks. But no relief was given to Shivraj Singh, VD Sharma and Bhupendra Singh. The Supreme Court said that there is no need for bailable warrant against the three, but these three leaders should appear in the trial court along with their lawyers. It is noteworthy that recently the demand of Shivraj Singh Chauhan, VD Sharma and Bhupendra Singh to dismiss the defamation case against them was also rejected by the Jabalpur High Court. After this all three have taken refuge in the Supreme Court.
It is now clear from the order of the Supreme Court that Shivraj Singh Chauhan, VD Sharma and Bhupendra Singh will have to appear in the court as per the previous order of the trial court. It is noteworthy that Vivek Tankha had advocated in the Supreme Court for non-compliance of delimitation and rotation in reservation in the last Panchayat and civic elections, but the court, while hearing another case, had banned OBC reservation. Vivek Tankha had nothing to do with the ban on OBC reservation, but it is alleged that the then CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan, BJP State President VD Sharma and Minister Bhupendra Singh gave statements to Vivek Tankha that he was anti-OBC. The blame for banning OBC reservation was also placed on him. In such a situation, Vivek Tankha had filed a defamation claim of Rs 10 crore against the three leaders.
