Shock to Punjab Governor from Supreme Court, validating the assembly session of the state government
New Delhi. The Governor of Punjab has been shocked by the Supreme Court. The court has declared the session of the Punjab Assembly on June 19 and 20 as constitutionally valid. The court said that now the Governor should consider this session as valid and take a decision on the bill pending with him. It is not right on the part of the Governor to raise doubts on the validity of the Assembly session. The Assembly consists of elected representatives of the public, hence the Governor declaring the session illegal is not constitutionally correct.
In fact, the Punjab government had called a special session of the Assembly on June 19 and 20 and passed some bills. But the Governor refused to sign those bills. Said that the session was not called as per the rules and was illegal. Citing this, he passed the bill and stopped it from becoming a law. After this, when the Punjab government called the assembly session, it was also declared illegal. The Punjab government had filed a petition against the Governor in the Supreme Court.
