Should Jaspreet Bumrah be compared to Ben Stokes? Listen to the direct answer to assistant coach
On the last day of the third Test played against India at Lord’s, Ben Stokes bowled 10 consecutive overs, after which Jasprit Bumrah’s workload is being compared to Ben Stokes. Stokes not only set high standards for Indian fast bowlers before going to their players, but also before going to the last two matches.
He threw the marathon 44 overs throughout the Test match and won his team by 22 runs with five wickets. Due to this performance of Stokes, he was compared to Indian fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah, who will play only in three Tests out of five. Like Stokes, Bumrah has also been struggling with injuries and before this tour it was made clear that he would play three out of five Tests. Now after three matches, the question arises that if Ben Stokes can play all Tests while bowling continuously, then why can’t Bumrah do this. India’s assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeshet also broke the silence on this comparison.
He spoke openly on the comparison between the two and praised Stokes. Ten Doeshet said in the press conference, “Ben’s last day landing on the field and the intensity with which he threw so many overs and also batted and fielding, it was very impressive. We were very impressive. We have not come here to compare our bowlers with other teams bowlers. We know what we like to do in small spells.”
Speaking further, he said, “And when it is the right time, as I said about Siraj, some bowlers are like this. You can get him the best performance in the seventh, eighth and ninth over, but not necessarily everyone is the same. We feel that after consulting Jaspreet, we are the best way for the team.”
