Team India’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer is in the headlines these days, and the reason for this is not being selected in the Asia Cup team. Meanwhile, a big news related to him has come out. According to media reports, Iyer was so sure to get a place in the Asia Cup 2025 that he also refused to captain the West Zone in the Dilip Trophy. But when the Indian squad was announced for the Asia Cup, he was not named in it.

The Indian team’s trusted middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer recently rejected the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). According to the report of The Times of India, he was to be given the responsibility of captaining West Zone in the Dilip Trophy, but he refused to think that he would probably get a place in Team India for the Asia Cup 2025.

According to the report, Iyer also started white-ball training in Mumbai with his personal coach Praveen Amre. It was believed that his name in the Asia Cup squad is sure. But when the team was announced, he was not only out of the main team, but he was not even named in the reserve. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said in the press conference that Iyer should be ‘Analaki’, but the middle order of the team is already set, so it was difficult for him to make a place.

Due to this, according to the media report, MCA gave Shardul Thakur the responsibility of captaincy after Iyer’s refusal, and he happily accepted this role. This shock was also big for Iyer because in IPL 2025 he scored more than 600 runs and took Punjab Kings to the finals.

The West Zone team will now start the Dilip Trophy campaign from the semi -finals in Bengaluru from 4 to 7 September under the captaincy of Shardul Thakur. At the same time, the Asia Cup will be played in the UAE from 9 September, in which Team India will play its first match against the host UAE.
