Shreyas Iyer’s name recorded as soon as Punjab Kings went to the playoffs, become the first captain to do so in IPL history
Shreyas iyer IPL Captaincy Record: Gujarat Titans on Sunday (May 18) in the Indian Premier League 2025 match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi Delhi Capitals Defeated by 10 wickets.
After getting the first batting invitation, Delhi scored 199 runs at the loss of 3 wickets thanks to the century of KL Rahul (112 not out). In response, Gujarat won 19 overs without any loss. For Gujarat, Sudarshan scored an unbeaten 108 and captain Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 93.
With this excellent victory, Gujarat reached the playoffs and along with that RCB also got the top 4 ticket to Punjab Kings.
With the Punjab’s playoffs, Shreyas Iyer’s name was recorded unique record. Iyer has become the first captain of IPL history, under whose captaincy three different teams have reached the playoffs. The team of Delhi Capitals first reached the final in IPL 2020 and made the Kolkata Knight Riders team champion in 2024.
Let us know that this is the third time when the Punjab team has reached the playoffs. Earlier, in 2008, under the captaincy of Yuvraj Singh and in 2014, George Bailey reached the Punjab playoffs.
Under the captaincy of Iyer, Punjab has won 8 in the 12 matches played so far and lost 3, while 1 match has been inconclusive. Punjab still has 2 more matches in the league stage.
