Shreyas Iyer did not get a place in the Test team for the tour of England, which is being discussed a lot. Despite a great performance in domestic cricket and a strong captaincy in the IPL, Iyer’s neglect has surprised the fans. Meanwhile, Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has broken his silence on this issue. It would be interesting to know what he said.

The announcement of the Indian Test team for England raised questions on many names, especially when Shreyas Iyer did not get a place in the team. On this, former captain and team head coach Gautam Gambhir replied to a journalist’s question, saying, “I am not a selecter.” Gambhir said that the chief selector Ajit Agarkar is responsible for the team selection, who was present in the press conference and answering all the questions. Gambhir had earlier clarified that he has no role in the selection process, yet fans and critics look at him every time.

Shreyas Iyer was out due to poor form in the middle of England series, but he has made a strong comeback in domestic cricket. He played two century innings in five matches in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. While captaining the Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, he topped his team in the league stage and gave a chance to play qualifier 1 after 11 years.

Iyer was purchased by Punjab Kings and became the second most expensive player in a record amount of Rs 23.75 crore in this IPL. He scored 514 runs in 14 matches, with an average of 51.40 and a strike rate of 171.91 as captain. Punjab will face Royal Challengers Bangalore to Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 29 May in Qualifier 1.

Meanwhile, Karun Nair and Sai Sudarshan got a chance in the Test team instead of Iyer. Now it has to be seen when and how Shreyas Iyer returns in future.
