Washington: SpaceX shared the first picture of the spacecraft on X, which Indian astronauts will take Shubhanshu Shukla and fly in space on June 10. The dragon spacecraft of SpaceX ready to fly towards the International Space Station (ISS) is fully prepared. Along with Shubhanshu Shukla, those moments are going to be very special for the whole country. He will lead the mission as a pilot of this vehicle. They have been given special training by SpaceX and Axiom Space for this mission. This spacecraft of Space X will take four AX-4 astronauts and then return to Earth safely. The newly developed dragon spacecraft will be launched on June 10 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida via Falcon-9 Reujical Rocket, SpaceX. The mission is headed by Axiom Space and includes astronauts from the US, India, Poland and Hungary.

Who is Shubhanshu Shukla who got such a big responsibility

Shubhanshu Shukla is the Indian Air Force Group Captain and ISRO astronaut, who will become another Indian to fly towards the International Space Station (ISS) after 40 years. They will leave for ISS from SpaceX’s dragon vehicle on 10 June 2025 under Axiom Mission 4 (AX-4). Shubhanshu was born on 10 October 1985 in Lucknow. He had his early education in Lucknow from City Montessori School. Inspired by the 1999 Kargil war, he took the National Defense Academy (NDA) examination and was successful. After graduating from NDA in 2005, he received a commission in the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot in June 2006.

Shubhanshu’s career in Air Force

Shubhanshu Shukla is an experienced Test pilot and Combat Leader, who has experience of more than 2,000 hours of flight on various aircraft. He has blown SU-30 MKI, MIG-21, MIG-29, Jaguar, Hawk, Dornier 228 and AN-32. He received the post of Wing Commander in 2019 and Group Captain in March 2024.

Also involved in Gaganyaan Mission

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) selected Shubhanshu Shukla in 2019 for India’s first human space mission “Gaganyaan”. He received one year rigorous training at Russia’s Yuri Gagarin Cosmonott Training Center and later continued training at ISRO’s astronaut training center in Bengaluru. In 2024, he was officially declared for the Gaganyaan Mission.
