After Team India’s legendary batsman Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket, the biggest question is who will be the next Test captain. The BCCI is considering this issue and according to reports, the board has almost fixed Shubman Gill for this role.

This decision indicates that Jaspreet Bumrah, who captained Team India in the last Test for India, will not be given this responsibility this time.

Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness became an obstacle, distance from captaincy?

According to BCCI sources, the board is not in favor of captaining Jasprit Bumrah. Indeed, the board believes that putting the burden of captaincy on a fast bowler can be risky, especially when that player’s fitness has already been challenging.

Jasprit Bumrah became captain on Australia tour, but his physical condition harassed him there. India wants to see Bumrah 100 percent fit in challenging circumstances like England. In such a situation, handing over the captaincy to him can harm the team’s bowling attack.

Shubman Gill Team India’s future face?

BCCI is looking at Shubman Gill as a long -term option. He is currently the vice -captain in India’s ODI and T20 teams and also the captain of the Gujarat Titans in the IPL. The team has done well under his captaincy.

Gill is only 25 years old and can captain Team India for a long time. His technique, continuity in batting and leadership ability make him a mature option.

Ishant Sharma’s opinion: “If you are fit, jasprit bumrah, otherwise gill”

An interesting turn in this debate came when former fast bowler Ishant Sharma made a statement in favor of Bumrah. Speaking at Star Sports’s ‘Press Room’ show, Ishant said, “If Bumrah is fit, I will say Bumrah. He is the first choice. He has experience. But if he cannot play all the five Tests, then obviously Shubman should be made captain.”
