Shubman Gill or Jaspreet Bumrah: Who should become a Test captain? Listen to MSK Prasad’s answer
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma (Rohit Sharma) On Wednesday, May 7, he announced the retirement from Test Cricket. He said through a post on Instagram that he will no longer be seen playing for India in this format. After Rohit’s retirement, a question is roaming in the mind of every Indian fan and that is who will be the next Test captain now?
Some people believe that Shubman Gill may be the next Test captain while some experts believe that Jaspreet Bumrah is the number one contender. However, in the meantime, former chairman of the selection committee MSK Prasad has said that there is no better option than Jaspreet Bumrah to lead the Test team and he has not made any mistake on those occasions.
Talking to India Today, MSK Prasad said, “Why not, man? Why not? Since he is fit now, why not?” Right now you have three options: Jaspreet Bumrah, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. These are three options. If you are looking at Bumrah, he will definitely play in both chakras. This and next. So nothing is wrong and whatever opportunities they have received, they have done very well. ”
Shubman Gill has been the vice-captain for India in ODIs. However, Prasad feels that the young batsman should only be allowed to focus on his batting as he is putting his feet in the number 3 location in the Test. While Gill is fantastic at home, his figures out of the house, especially in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia), have been a cause for concern.
The average of Gill in 12 Tests in SENA countries has been only 25.70 and the Gujarat Titans captains will be eager to leave their mark in England later this year. Prasad finished his talk saying, “I think I am fine with either of the two (Gill or Bumrah). They are considering both. I think to start with a series like England, we do not want someone to come under pressure. There is no opinion. You can start with Bumrah and make Shubman a vice-captain. “
