In the Galle Test, Bangladesh’s veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim played an innings that added a new chapter to the pages of history. He not only completed a century on Sri Lanka land, but has moved the first place in the list of batsmen who do so from Bangladesh in Test cricket on Sri Lanka soil. On the first day of the first Test match between Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka being played at the Galle Stadium in Sri Lanka from Tuesday 17 June, Mushfiqur Rahim not only completed his century by batting brilliantly but also became the highest run -scorer Bangladeshi batsman in Test cricket in Sri Lanka. He completed the century in 176 balls with the help of 5 fours and in association with captain Najmul Hussain Shanto, he shared a big partnership of 200+ runs.

Slow start, but stable innings

The Bangladesh team started to bat first after winning the toss. In the first 15 overs, Shadman Islam and Anamul Haq returned to the pavilion cheaply. Although Mominul Haq scored 29 runs in 33 balls, but he was also run by debutant Tharindu Ratnayake.

Shanto-Rahim’s strong partnership

Captain Shanto took the first innings and completed a century, while veteran Mushfiqur Rahim also showed his class and scored a brilliant century off 176 balls. The two have shared more than 200 runs so far, which has brought Bangladesh to a strong position.

Rahim became the most successful Test batsman in Sri Lanka

With this century, Mushfiqur Rahim has also touched a big milestone. He has now become the Bangladeshi batsman to score the most Test runs on Sri Lanka soil.

Rahim has scored 2 centuries and 5 half -centuries in Sri Lanka so far and has an average of 68.63. This innings once again showed why he is considered the most trusted player of Bangladesh Test team.
