Sl vs Zim 1st Odie Highlights: Sri Lanka took a 1-0 lead in the first match of the two-match ODI series by 7 runs. In this exciting match which lasted till the last over, Dilshan Madushaka took Sri Lanka victory with a hat -trick. Alexander Raza’s brilliant 92 -run innings could not win Zimbabwe.

Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe by 7 runs in a very exciting manner in the first match of the two -match ODI series played at Harare Sports Club on Friday (29 August). In the last over, the brilliant hat-trick of Dilshan Madushaka ensured Sri Lanka’s victory and gave the team a 1-0 lead in the series.

Batting first after losing the toss, Sri Lanka scored 298 runs in 50 overs. Opener Nishan Madushka was dismissed without opening the account, but the second opener Pathm Nisanka (76) took the innings and gave the team a strong start. After this, Kusal Mendis (38) and Samravikrama (35) played useful innings.

In the end, Janith Liange scored 70* runs (47 balls, 6 fours, 3 sixes) while batting fast, while Kamindu Mendis played a stormy innings of 57 (36 balls). Thanks to the partnership of both, Sri Lanka scored a strong score of 298. For Zimbabwe, Richard Nagarwa took 2 wickets while Raza, Manrabani, Gwandu and Sean Williams got 1–1 success.

Chasing the target, Zimbabwe’s opening two shocks quickly took place. Opener Ben Karan from one end scored 70 runs from 90 balls, but Brian Bennett and Brendon Taylor could not even open an account. After that captain Sean Williams (57) and then Alexander Raza (92) brought the team to a strong position. Raza and Tony Muyonga (43 runs 52 balls) kept the match alive for the last over with a crucial partnership of 128 runs.

The turning point of the match came in the last over when Zimbabwe wanted 10 runs in the last over and Raza was playing on 92. Dilshan Madushaka first dismissed Raza and then completed the hat -trick by dealing with Brad Evans and Nagarwa for two consecutive balls. With this, Zimbabwe’s expectations were broken and Sri Lanka registered a stunning win by 7 runs.

Madushaka took 4 wickets for Sri Lanka, while Asitha Fernando also took 3 important wickets. With this victory, Sri Lanka took a 1-0 lead in the series.
