Bollywood’s famous singer Sonu Nigam has turned 52 years old. Sonu Nigam was born on 30 July 1973 in Faridabad city of Haryana. His father was a parent singer. Since childhood, Sonu Nigam’s trend was towards music and he also wanted to become a singer like his parents.

Starting in this direction, Sonu Nigam started participating in stage programs with his father from the age of just three years. Sonu Nigam came to Mumbai with his father at the age of 19 with a dream of becoming a playback singer. Sonu Nigam faced a lot of difficulties in Mumbai.

For his living, he used to present the programs of songs sung by Mohammad Rafi on stage. Meanwhile, the famous company T-Series recognized his talent and took out the album of his singing ‘Rafi’s memories’. Sonu Nigam started her cine career as a playback singer with the film ‘Janam’ but unfortunately the film could not be released.

For about five years, Sonu Nigam continued to struggle to become a playback singer in Mumbai. Everyone would give assurances but no one gave them the opportunity to work. Meanwhile, Sonu Nigam performed playback in films with B and C grade but did not benefit him from these films.

1995 proved to be an important year for Sonu Nigam’s career and he got an opportunity to work as a host in the program ‘Saregama’ on the small screen. After the popularity from the show, he managed to make his mark to some extent. Meanwhile, he met Gulshan Kumar, the owner of T-series, who recognized his talent and gave a chance to work as a playback singer in his film ‘Bewafa Sanam’.

His song ‘Achhe Sila Diya Tune Mere Pyaar Ka’ sung in this film became a craze among the audience in those days. After the success of the film and song, he managed to make his mark in the film industry as a playback singer. After the success of Bewafa Sanam, Sonu Nigam started receiving proposals for many good films, including big budget films like Dil Se, Soldier, Aa Ab Laut Chale, Sarfarosh, Hasina Mann Jaye and Taal. After the success of these films, he touched the new heights of success and enchanted the audience by singing a song.

Sonu Nigam got an opportunity to play playback in the film ‘Border’ under Anu Malik’s music direction in 1997. In this film, he wiped out the clone of Mohammad Rafi’s clone on him through the song ‘Sandesh Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. In 1997, Sonu Nigam got an opportunity to play playback in the film ‘Pardes’ starring Shah Rukh Khan. Under the music direction of Nadeem Shravan, he not only showed his multidimensional talent by singing the song ‘Ye Dil Deewana’ but also became a craze among the youth.

Sonu Nigam has been awarded the Filmfare Award twice so far. He was first awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Singer for the song ‘Saathiya’ of the film Saathiya in 2002. After this, he was also awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Gayak for the song ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ in the film Kal Ho Na Ho in 2003. Apart from Hindi, he has also given his voice for the songs of Urdu, English, Tamil, Bangla, Punjabi, Marathi, Telugu, Bhojpuri, Kannada, Oriya and Nepali films.

Sonu Nigam, rich in versatility, has also acted in several films. He has worked as a child artist in films like lovely enemy, Doodle, Ustadi Ustad, desperate, Humse Hai Hai Zamana and Takdir, and Jani Dushman has also mesmerized the audience by working as an actor in films like a unique love story, love in Nepal and Kash Aap Hamari Ho.

Sonu Nigam has been playing an active role in social uplift in addition to the playback singing and is associated with many welfare organizations as a member. Among them, the institution for the welfare of cancer ragis, leprosy patients and blinds is particularly notable. Apart from this, Sonu Nigam has also made active contribution to ‘Craan’, an organization for the upliftment of families and children suffering from Kargil war and earthquake.
