Seoul: The relationship between North Korea and South Korea is well known. Recently, South Korea indicated to reduce tension with North Korea. In this sequence, now the South Korean army said on Monday that it has started removing the loudspeaker on its border with North Korea, which is a step towards reducing tension between the two countries. How was loudspeaker used?

North Korea did not respond

The South Korean Ministry of Defense said that removing these loudspeakers from the border is another ‘practical step’, which has been taken to reduce tension between Korean countries divided by war. The ministry also clarified that this would not affect South Korea’s military readiness. North Korea did not immediately respond to South Korea’s move.

When did Korea partition?

Talking about the dispute between North Korea and South Korea, Korea was partitioned in the year 1945 after World War II. Japan, who had captured Korea since 1910, lost in war. The US and the Soviet Union then temporarily divided Korea into two parts. The Soviet Union had influence in the north and the influence of America in the south. In 1948, different governments were formed in both regions.

Korean War (1950–1953)

In 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea, leading to the Korean War. This war lasted for three years and killed about 3 million people. The United Nations, mainly led by the US, came to assist South Korea, while China supported North Korea. A ceasefire agreement was signed in 1953, but till date there has been no formal peace treaty, due to which the two countries are technically in a state of war. (AP)
