A sad news has come out from the Malayalam film world. Malayalam actor Shanwas, son of South Superstar Prem Nazir, died late Monday night in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram at the age of 71 years. He had been struggling with many serious diseases for a long time. After the condition deteriorated, he was admitted to a private hospital, after which he died a few hours later and breathed his last in the hospital. Actor was living in a flat in Vajhuthakoud near Akashvani. He said goodbye to the world on August 04, 2025.
Superstar’s son ruled the industry for four decades
Renowned actor Shanwas, son of Prem Nazir, the most popular superstar of Indian cinema, had been struggling with kidney and heart-related diseases for many years. Unfortunately, he breathed his last during treatment. Shanwas made his acting debut in 1981 with ‘Premgitangal’ directed by Balchandra Menon. At that time he was doing MA in English literature from New College, Chennai. Over time, Shanwas made his own identity and starred in 96 films in Malayalam, Tamil, in which he played a romantic character from a romantic character to the dreaded villain in a career of more than four decades.
Shanwas’s superhit film career
Shanwas made her acting debut in 1981 with ‘Premgitangal’ directed by Balachandra Menon. He acted in more than 50 Malayalam and more than 40 Tamil films in his film career. He has not only played romantic roles but also as a strong villain. He took a break of over two decades from acting and finally returned from ‘China Town’ with Mohanlal in 2011. Not only this, Shanwas started with his father Prem Nazir in seven films with ‘Ivan Oru Simham’. He has also worked in television serials.
Shanwas had a deep connection with the film family
Shanwas was born to South Superstar Prem Nazir and Habiba Biwi in Thiruvananthapuram. He was one of the four siblings and was married to Ayesha Biwi. He had two sons, Shamer Khan (a Vologue/Manager in Malaysia) and Ajit Khan who work in Australia.
Shanwas’s last film
Shanwas was last seen in the 2022 film ‘Jan Gana Mana’ on screen. It was a thriller film starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. It was directed by Diso Jose Antony. Apart from films, he also worked in many television serials like ‘Shankhamukham’, ‘Velutha Katrina’, ‘Kadmattha Kahnar’ and ‘Satyamev Jayate’.
