Stampede after Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, 3 killed
After the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha, there was a stampede at around 4 am on Sunday. In this, 3 people died, while 50 were injured. The condition of 6 of the injured is critical.
The accident occurred in front of Gundicha temple, about 3 km from the Jagannath temple. Here there was a huge crowd to see Lord Jagannath’s Nandighosh chariot, during which a stampede took place.
CM Mohan Charan Majhi has apologized for the incident. He wrote on X, ‘Me and my government personally apologize to all the devotees of Lord Jagannath. This negligence is not worth forgiving.
After this, the state government transferred the Collector and SP of Puri. Chanchal Rana has been made a new collector and Pinak Mishra has been made a new SP. Also DCP and Commandant have been suspended.
Jagannath Rath reached later, people got vogin
In the Rath Yatra of Puri, the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are parked in front of their aunt’s house for 9 days in front of Gundicha temple. The chariots of Balabhadra and Subhadra had reached here earlier. Jagannath Rath reached later, which caused people to see him.
Meanwhile, there was a stampede, in which many people were crushed by falling. It is being told that there was not enough police force deployed there at the time of the incident. Those killed in the accident are Basanti Sahu (36), Premkanti Mahanti (78) and Prabhati Das. Their bodies are kept in Puri Medical College.
Hundreds of devotees deteriorated on Friday
Earlier on Friday (June 27), more than 625 devotees deteriorated due to increased pressure of the crowd around the chariot of Goddess Subhadra. According to the administration, 70 people were admitted to the hospital. The condition of 9 of these is said to be critical.
